Of course, itвЂ™s not a romantic film but when you include romance, it has to work. Also, their romance doesnвЂ™t flourish when it blossoms, thatвЂ™s why when he loses her, there is hardly any impact. Living in a closed community and wooing a girl so easily was just a letdown. The romance is another let down, because its all too easy. In fact, for the whole movie, вЂZindaвЂ™ was the only high point. Except for вЂZindaвЂ™ song there wasnвЂ™t anything of interest in the flashback period.

Mehra wanted to make a feel good, run safe, patriotic movie or just that it didnвЂ™t interest him. Partition of India and Pakistan and its after effects are stories of great interest but it was just touched upon to add length to the movie but nothing apart from it. The problem with the movie is except for the running portions, other stories evoke very little interest in spite of having a strong story. If not for the physique I wonder why he was hailed so much. In fact, I found Farhan and the kid who played younger Milkha, to be more poker faced than anyone. Most of the actors are poker faced for situations. Milkha SinghвЂ™s story is inspirational enough to be taken in a linear fashion but the director messes it up. There is only so much one can do in a biography. Wonder how would it be if Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra makes road movies, I guess the entire film would be shot on road. Right from the title, everything was taken literally on a ride. IвЂ™ve never seen so much running on screen. One of the reviews rightly read, that even if its just 400 meters that he is running, it feels like as if itвЂ™s a marathon. I too was waiting that at some point there will be something interesting, something inspirational, but all we see is Milkha running and running. But the threat of boredom was larger than it.

With all the hype and excellent looking Farhan Akthar, there was a sense of interest looming in it intially. The rest of the film happens in flashback mode. His coaches and a government official take a train to Chandigarh to convince him to join the race. Milkha is not keen on that and doesnвЂ™t accept the offer. Post that we see Nehru (Dalip Tahil) asking Milkha to lead the contingent in the upcoming friendly race with Pakistan. The film opens with a ripped up Milkha Singh (Farhan Akhtar) appearing in 400-meter dash and due to sudden remembrance of a horrific past, losing the race.
